Reading Sensex OI walls

Open interest is the count of outstanding contracts at each strike. The highest call-OI strike — currently 79,000 for Sensex — acts as resistance (the call wall); the highest put-OI strike — 76,000 — acts as support (the put wall). Price often respects these walls because writers defend them.

OI plus price direction

OI alone is half the story — pair it with price: rising price with rising OI is long build-up; falling price with rising OI is short build-up. Watch change in OI intraday to see the walls move.
