Reading the Nifty 50 PCR

The Put-Call Ratio divides total put open interest by total call open interest. The latest Nifty 50 PCR is 1.19. Above 1 means puts outweigh calls (often read as support-building or cautious); below 1 means calls dominate. On NSE indices it is best read relative to its own recent range, not a fixed threshold.

Why context beats the number

An extreme Nifty 50 PCR can flag a crowded trade ripe for a contrarian snap, but the same value means different things in trending vs. range-bound markets. Pair it with max pain, the OI walls and FII/DII flows before acting.
